Weekend itinerary

A two-night Stowe mountain weekend

Stay near Stowe village, give Saturday to Mount Mansfield or the Recreation Path, and keep Route 108 dependent on current road and weather conditions.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

A Stowe weekend can combine the village, Mountain Road, Mount Mansfield, and the Recreation Path.

Best length

2 nights

Arrive Friday, spend Saturday between the mountain and village, and keep Sunday short enough for the drive home.

Stay

Green Mountain Inn

Historic Main Street inn with rooms, suites, apartments, and townhouses near village shops and dining. Choose it for a walkable Stowe base rather than slopeside access.

Main activity

Mount Mansfield or the Recreation Path

Choose the mountain for skiing or a substantial hike; choose the river path for an easier day close to town.

Weekend split

One mountain day, one village morning

Choose one substantial outdoor outing and leave the other seasonal choices for another visit.

Cyclists on a paved riverside path below the Green Mountains — The Recreation Path follows the West Branch between Stowe village and Mountain Road access points.

Wet Vermont road approaching a village below a forested ridge — Rain, snow, and peak foliage traffic can slow the VT-100 and Mountain Road approach to Stowe.

Warm restaurant interior for a Stowe evening — Reserve the Saturday table during ski holidays and peak foliage weekends.

Friday

Main Street check-in and a Mountain Road dinner

Walk Main Street after check-in, eat nearby, and confirm the mountain or road report before bed.

4:00 PM

Stay at Green Mountain Inn.

Saturday weather switch

Saturday depends on the mountain and Route 108

Lift status, rain, mud, snow, foliage traffic, and the Route 108 closure calendar can all change Saturday's best option.
